Wannabe stylista

I have no sense of style. I dress alright, but that's it. It's just "alright." I have, once again, lost sight of what this blog is supposed to do... which is to help me learn how to have style.

I don't commit too many fashion faux pas, but that's because I always play it safe when dressing up. I wear next to nothing makeup. I wear my flipflops to death. I'm soooooo Plain Jane.

Like the last time I went clubbing, I wore these rags (nevermind my horrifying smile) --

It just screams WALLFLOWER.

It's not bad, but it's too... ummm... ordinary.

Why am I hell-bent on doing this when I'm not doing so bad anyway? I just realised that it's not enough to be "OK." I'm only young once and if I can't wear the clothes, makeup and accessories I want now, then I certainly won't get away with it in 10 years. My neck might look like a turtle's by then.

So it's a tribute to my (cough) youth. To make as much out of it as I could.

Good luck to me on my Journey to the Essence of Style.

Your own choice in style is a style. When we copy others ...it is in fact their style we are wearing.

I think it often takes a while to feel out our own style and find items which truly and genuinely make us happy. I would say, I finally nailed it around 21. Though I still buy the purchase which I can't stand six months later, I'm generally pretty good and finding things I'll love for years.

May I suggest The Lucky Guide To Mastering Any Style and Harper's Bazaar Great Style? I have both and they're very inspiring.

i think copying in the beginning always leads to learning what is best for you and to eventually have a style of your own.

its ok! i didnt find my style until 2 or 3 years ago.. and i realized that my style was to not be like everyone else.. like when i go to the clubs - i dont dress like the typical male (tight jeans that allow for zero leg movement, tight dress shirt with no undershirt and the buttons unbuttoned at the top thus exposing their manly clavicle, leather shoes from aldo or something, and cheap-smelling axe body spray lol). be yourself and stand out! we dont all have the same bodies, so why should we all have the same clothes :)

exactly! i won't be able to pull off everything everyone else puts on, i just want to find out what works for me (none of those you mentioned will, that's for sure. hehehe!). i just don't want to look boring because i'm already bored with myself, so why should i let other people get that impression too??
