FS Picks of the Week, Aug 31- Sep 6

It's comedy movie week, doncha know???

If Bruno, Year One and Land of the Lost aren't enough, there's always the local movie Kimmy Dora.

Other movies opening this week are Obsessed and The Final Destination (let's hope this is the final one as I don't know how many characters have to die in this series -- is anybody still watching them???).

I've seen last week's District 9 and it's one heck of a movie. Some friends were annoyed that the local censors had spliced the movie up so much that it's practically murder if the movie was a person. I didn't mind so much, as I could care less for the gory bits. I just wish that they've done a better job of concealing it, as there are certain bits in the film that you know should be there but have been haphazardly taken out. Sheesh.

Well anyway, back to my list --

Bruno

Starring: Sacha Baron Cohen
Synopsis: After BORAT took over America in 2006, another Sacha Baron Cohen creation arrives on the big screen. In BRUNO, the gay Austrian model of the title brings his antics to the States.

Year One

Starring: Jack Black, Michael Cera, Oliver Platt & David Cross
Synopsis: When a couple of lazy hunter-gatherers (Jack Black and Michael Cera) are banished from their primitive village, they set off on an epic journey through the ancient world in Columbia Pictures' comedy Year One.

More movies after the jump.

Land of the Lost

Starring: Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Anna Friel & Jorma Taccone
Synopsis: Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, sucked into one and spat back through time. Way back. Now, Marshall has no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world--a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost.

Kimmy Dora (Kambal sa Kiyeme)

Starring: Eugene Domingo
Synopsis: The rivalry between twin sisters with opposite personalities grows hotter as they fawn over the same man. The more ruthless twin is flummoxed when her sweet naive sister appears to be winning the affection of the said man. She snaps and has her sister kidnapped, intending to take her place.

Bit much?

Ever feel like you've taken on too much? I'm sure it's pretty common.

I've been feeling it more and more recently and it's irritating because all the stress is actually taking its toll on my teeth.

Yes, my teeth.

I woke up to the sensation of chipping my tooth other day because my jaw had clenched so hard and I was unconsciously grinding my teeth in my sleep.

My teeth aren't perfect to begin with -- they are crooked as hell, but chipping them makes things worse. I've damaged two already and I fear it might happen again.

I'm planning to see the dentist really soon about this. However, The BF thinks I'll only get a mouth-guard for my trouble.

I need to get rid of the stress I'm feeling to avoid more damaged teeth, but it's not that easy at the moment.

What to do now???

Baja, Greenbelt 3

We tried the newly opened Mexican restaurant in Greenbelt 3 called Baja, last week.

The menu was a little steep, but that's pretty normal in that area.

Wonder why the place is empty on a Saturday night?

These tables outside look like they've been rained on then dried up... not very inviting.

If you plan to pay over a hundred pesos for an order of quesadillas, I think they should look more appetising than this.

The chili fries were okay, but I thought the ones from Brothers Burger was better.

Soft taco is okay, but i'm not used to wrapping it myself, I guess.

Chili burger was okay, but the Mexicali one is better. This one's a little on the salty side.

The nachos seem like the best of the bunch, but how can you go wrong with nachos anyway?

Bottom-line is, everything is just "okay." To the point that we may not need to come back anytime soon. Maybe in a couple of years... if it's still open. If I wanted to spend around Php400 for a meal, I don't want it to be just "okay." I'd settle for at least "good."

FS Picks of the Week, Aug 24-30

So has anyone else seen the Disney/Pixar movie Up??? It's awesome! I had to pay Php300 to watch it on 3D and I thought that was a bit steep but it's actually amazing so I'm happy to have splurged this time. I wouldn't wanna pay double price every time, though.

Anyway, here's what we've got this week!

Dreamcatching

.
.
.

All people dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous, for they may act their dreams with open eyes to make them possible.
-- T.E. Lawrence of Arabia

I never intended to be a writer.

However, throughout the course of my life so far, I always manage to end up in a place where writing was necessary but usually for free -- practically labours of love. I had grown to love expressing myself through words and just to be able to do that for a living is my dream.

I'm not there yet, but the journey is everything I expect it to be.

Dreaming while awake is what I've been doing and taking baby steps towards my ultimate goal.

It would, therefore, come as no surprise that I would try my hand at becoming a StarTV blogger. This sounds resume-ish, I have to say that I'm fit to do it because I'm creative, always up for something different -- and this job sounds like it might be a hoot! Don’t get me wrong with that last phrase, though, because I take my work very seriously (but still try to inject a little fun here and there).

If the HP Space contestants get their chance to achieve their dreams, then this opportunity is for me to achieve mine. This kind of mutual understanding is what I believe would make this role doubly special for me and just to be considered for it will be enough for me to throw a party!

If that happens, it will, of course, be blogged about.

BFF Blues

I had been watching one too many "buddy movies" lately and it's made me depressed... it's not even my PMS schedule yet!

So basically, watching I Love You Man and Bride Wars which should be fun movies, actually bummed me out.

Why is that, though? They made me realise that I don't have a proper best friend. I mean, my best friend is actually The BF but in this case, that doesn't really make him a proper one because it has to be a girl. So, I don't have one.

I don't have a best friend that I think about immediately when I want to share something.

Like when I wanna go jogging in the park.

Or when I wanna look fabulous while on a stroll (hahaha!).

Or give the dog a walk.

Or just hang out too much that The BF would get somewhat jealous.

I guess I envy these movie best friends because they have that really deep connection with each other that just wouldn't compare when you're in a close couple. But it's really also my fault for not making the effort to share enough with the friends I already have.

*lightbulb moment*

Wait! What's my problem, again??? I don't have a best friend?

But I've got SEVERAL really great ones!

We've been together for DECADES! What about that photo, huh? I can't believe we looked like that. Jeez. It's a big group, but it was so much fun back in the day. Some had to leave the country or just wanted different things, so we're a little tighter now.

But we go on really nice holidays together...

... and it's always something different each time.

We may not see each other as often as we would like to, but milestones are never missed.

So on the day that I was really bummed out for not having a BFF, they were just a text away (well, several texts actually). Nearly all of them were there that night and it made me feel so fortunate to have them.

Tinkerbell is so last season

Paris Hilton
had been showing off her new furry friend...

... and it matches her dress! Didn't she used to carry that chihuahua in tutu (named Tinkerbell) a couple of years ago? Clearly this heiress thinks pets are the ultimate accessory.

Well, two can play at that game!

I'll make Gustav my accesory too!

Hmmm... Somehow, this isn't working too well.

Styling my way to bankruptcy

After declaring my
stylistic ambition, I’m proud to say that I have definitely been putting in the effort. I’ve read through a couple of books, gone through new and old magazine I had lying around and had been ogling over endless pages of fashion websites. Doing all that made me realise one thing –

Achieving style is difficult and EXPENSIVE.

That leaves me in a pickle, because there isn’t much room in my budget to factor in clothes, accessories, beauty products/tools and makeup. This makes the mission doubly hard, because not only am I striving to be creative about how I look, but I also need to get creative about how to afford these new luxuries.

Suggestions, anyone?

The BF gave me The Lucky Shopping Manual last Christmas, and I have to say it's a book for life especially for the fashion clueless (you have to at least know your overall shape, but I don't think that would be a problem with women). This is an excellent book, but with the way my cash is going recently, I think it would take me the rest of my life to have everything that's listed in here.

Will it still be relevant when I'm 75???

FS Picks of the Week, Aug 17-23

I don't know what had gotten into me. I was too lazy to post anything new here. I had been busy though, because I've had my hair cut short(er) after sooooooo long and I've FINALLY seen The Proposal -- the most noteworthy scene would've been the one where Ryan Reynolds takes his shirt off (damn, damn, damn!!!).

*clears throat*

*whistles*

*pretending that I hadn't lost myself*

.

*still daydreaming about Ryan Reynolds*

Parking 101 (or something)

Our trip to
Trilogy wasn't as straightforward as it looked in the last post. When The BF parked the car and we thought we were lucky to get a space right in front of the boutique/canteen...

... But the manongs from the construction site next door started covering the car up while we were sat inside waiting for our food!

Apparently it's to protect the car from "possible falling debris."

Umm...

As considerate as they were, we couldn't enjoy our lunch too much because of might happen or not happen to the car.

Lesson learned:

Do not park your car right next to a building construction site. Duh.

Long titles & webhosting

I am not sure if it was intentional (although I am almost certain that it was not), but it seems I have a penchant for using long titles for my blog addresses.
Writing http://frustratedsosyalera.blogspot.com on the search bar is a handful and might be a job for most people to remember. I had been thinking about getting my own domain and considered getting webhosting services, but I really do not have any idea where to begin. When I try searching online about the topics, most sites use jargon that I don’t understand. I just want to know which companies offer the best deal! Fortunately, Webhostingrating.com has a list of the Top 10 Web Hosting Providers on their site. These results are based on reviews, so they are most probably reliable. The list is just the thing I think I need that will help me ask the right questions when I begin my inquiries. Webhostingrating.com also has articles to help you learn basic things like Getting Familiar with your Control Panel. When I had finally decided on which company to subscribe to, I hopefully do not need to type any extra words on the search bar to get to this website.

Trilogy Boutique & Canteen, Makati City

Being Steve Aoki fans, The BF and I had wanted to visit Trilogy Boutique and Canteen since it opened a few months ago because he partly owns it. Besides, getting to eat and window shop at the same time should be quite a unique experience (you can do that at Via Mare Landmark Makati also, but I don't think that's the same).

Shopping and dining here is a little different, because you're away from the usual mall-rush.

From the inside, the boutique/canteen looks really nice & bright.

This is the chow side...

... and that's the shopping side.

Guess what we decided to do there that day? Hehe.

The LAST PAIR EVER (as far as I know, anyway) of the Adidas Originals by Originals JS Wings shoe was still there when we came. Stunning! It's apparently sold-out worldwide.

There's also a good selection of coffee table books in the store (is that what they're called?).

Hmmmmm... somebody got bored waiting for the chow.

... Really bored.

Don't get me wrong, the food arrived fairly quickly! I'm just restless like that.

Tuna melt sandwich with (cassava?) chips.

Tonkatsu burger with chips.

I am DEFINITELY going back for the Banana Foster with Mantecado Ice Cream... it was sooooo heavenly!

Trilogy Boutique & Canteen can be found at 110 Alvion Center, Rada St, Legaspi Village, Makati City. It's open 11am-9pm on weekdays and 11am-7pm on weekends.
