Romantic Relationships: The Odds Against Us

I've come across some statistics about how people handle romantic relationships.  I'm not going to talk about all of them (there are a lot of them), but there are quite a few numbers there that have caught my eye.

A large number of women want to marry  for money.  Now, guys may think that we're all gold-diggers, but seriously -- how many women actually do it??  Most women "want" to marry rich, but they really end up marrying for love most of the time.  Now, if the guy they're marrying is rich, that's a bonus.

So men fall in love faster than women... but don't guys usually pull back when the girls start falling too? Getting serious may cause some guys to run for the hills!  They want the passion, but not the commitment.  Therefore, men falling in love doesn't equal wanting to be in a relationship with the women they fall for.

I, therefore, need to curb my cougaristic tendencies,  should I want to live longer.

But as guys my age are mostly married or in a serious relationship, the other option becomes unlikely.  So I must be destined for spinsterhood.  Now, where are the statistics for the life expectancy of single women compared to married ones??

Meanwhile....

There is simply no justice.

So a warning to those women who want to marry rich, dirty, old men in the hopes of becoming a wealthy young widow -- THE BASTARD WILL LIVE LONGER, so don't get your hopes up.

Ladybug: Lady Luck or Lady Love?

You may think that I've gone bonkers, but I've started to think that everything and everyone in the world is connected in some strange way.  Don't ask me how I ended up having this perspective, it will only drive you as nuts as I am.  The littlest things can have meaning to me now and I seriously believe there is a higher power somewhere.

I know it's unconventional, even a little hippy-esque, but this new world view keeps me on an even keel and optimistic about life despite all the big rocks it's been throwing at me of late.

I've been seeing quite a few ladybugs in the garden --

They're apparently lucky omens.  However, Asian legends also believe that if you catch one and release it, the ladybug will make a beeline for your true love and whisper your name to his/her ear.  Then if you count the spots on its back, that's the number of months you'll have to wait for that person to come into your life.

THEREFORE....

Is true love just around the corner for me???   *starry eyes*

I dunno if I have to count that black spot at the back of its head, but if this is true then true love should be mine, say, around 6-7 months? Lolll.

I'm not that stupid to believe all that crap, honest!  *shifty eyes*

It's just fun to think and it gives one a reason to smile about. :)

Playing the Love Game

I was listening to a radio interview during the Boys Night Out program last night about local "pick-up artists." These are basically normal-looking guys (their group is called Attraxtion Arts, by the way, which sounds like a lame name to me) that have found ways to pick up women (who would normally just ignore them) and have elevated it into an art form.

This isn't new. If any of you are familiar with the book The Game, then this is the exact same thing. It is basically one big mind game.

The guy that was being interviewed was saying that women basically get to choose men who have high value with qualities such as being rich, successful career, good looking and fit. So this apparently normal-looking guy has had to resort to using tactics to get women and that these pick-up artists are actually "balancing out" the local dating scene.

That is utter BULLSHIT.

Don't get me wrong. I do understand why some guys need to do this. They probably doubt themselves and need a bit more confidence or the right approach to get girls to notice them, which is absolutely fine. I'm just not sold on the idea that having pick-up artists balances out the dating scene.

First of all, women can't absolutely take their pick of men without looking like sluts. They usually get to choose only if they have a choice in the first place -- like there is already more than one guy that is attracted to her.

Now if the normal-looking guys go after the pretty girls, then that leaves the normal-looking girls out. Should they start studying pick-up artistry too?

I don't really have any problem with the actual game. In fact, I think it's pretty interesting. I have personally seen these tactics work (ehem, you know who you are), but I guess I just don't like the guy being interviewed -- he just sounds so full of it and it irks me to no end.

The "entire Philippine Seduction Community" (how they can say that with a straight face is commendable) is apparently having a get-together tomorrow and I'm very tempted to go have a look.

If women knew about all the stretegies that these geezers use, then what is the point in all of it? It would be a hell of a lot more fun if women could spot these tactics and do some counter moves, doncha think? I fear for future generations -- the love game is becoming so much more complicated.

Maybe somebody's already done that? I better go trawl the internetz and see. Hehe!

Dialogues out of nowhere #3

While walking out of a magazine
shop one time (and walking fairly fast, too), some random guy ran up in front of me and said --

Hiwhere'sthebathroommayiintroducemyself?

If you didn't get that, he basically said "Hi-where's-the-bathroom-may-I-introduce-myself?"
And he said all that in 2 seconds flat.

Now, I must've looked really confused because he asked me two questions without allowing me to answer the first one before firing the second. So I said --

"The toilet's over there (pointing the direction) and I'm with my boyfriend, sorry."

Shot down. Just like that.

The bf witnessed the whole thing and he was laughing his arse off! He even went off to spy on the guy and saw that he was with some other guy, probably his pick-up mentor.

The bf said guys should NEVER EVER approach a moving target. Don't give him too much credit, though. He got the idea from watching a series called The Pick-up Artist.

The idea makes sense really, especially if the target's in a hurry. Someone's first reaction when approached by a stranger is that he/she would be taken aback, which is exactly how I reacted. The guy startled me. You'll have better luck in a place where the girl is sitting down or just mulling about and not intending to be anywhere else for sometime.

In full fairness, bathroom guy's efforts have not gone to waste. I have gotten a story out of it, after all. Hehe.

Public display of desperation

Gadzooks, it's been a while hasn't it? I got really swamped up in the Christmas rush and there's loads of work in the office because we're understaffed that now I'm beginning to have panic attacks because I can't update my site.

So tragically busy.

I remember this one night I went out with the boys when we passed by our neighbour's door ....

Photobucket

Someone wants to be desperately forgiven for some heinous act.

Photobucket

Since our neighbour's a nice-looking lady in her early 30's, I hazard a guess that she had caught her man in a "loving embrace" with another woman. I don't think he would look this guilty otherwise.

And as my friends are great artists, they added a little something-something to the exhibit to make it a little bit more.... commercially appealing.

Photobucket

Ok, so the handwriting's bad. Hehe!

They added "to put it in my pooper" to the note that said "I need you!"

Oh I know it's rude, but they asked for it! You don't put personal stuff like that out in the open for the public to see!

If I were to see those notes on MY DOOR, I would've dumped that guy's sorry ass a million more times for humiliating me.

And to think those things had been up at least three days. Jeez. Looks like our neighbour had gone away for the weekend to forget the whole thing, then she sees that? It's a disgusting display of emasculation.

One tip to all you males out there ---

Do NOT grovel. It may only make things worse for you.

*I only hope that my neighbour doesn't read blogs. hehehe!

Infidelity 101

Q: He's cheated on me once, but i've given him another chance. Am i right to trust him again?

A: probably not -- and most definitely not if he's got a history of being unfaithful and being forgiven. most of us naively believe that if someone is in love and 'happy', they won't be tempted to have sex with anyone else. not true. many men (and women) attest to loving their partners dearly even though they've had sex on the side. the urge to cheat exists on some level in all of us. who gives into it and who resists depends on our personal morals and relationship history. if he's able to separate sex from love (and plenty can), affairs are his way of keeping himself sexually satisfied, he's cheated on every person he's ever been out with and been forgiven for doing so, why should he stop? the problem with giving second chances is this: once you forgive bad behaviour, you condone it. it's particularly pointless trusting him again if you knew he had a history of cheating on partners and you'd warned him you'd leave if he did it to you. if he hasn't a history of cheating, it's early in the relationship and this was a one-off incident with seemingly genuine reasons to explain it, hang in there -- but only if he appears to be more upset about the betrayal than you are.

-- Tracey Cox, Relationship Coach

~ from Frustrated Sosyalera's baul, circa 31.01.04

I think it's either you cheat or you don't.

If you're the type of person that doesn't really know what they specifically want in a partner or you don't think your partner is the type you wanted all along, you will end up looking sideways all the time to find out if you will find that elusive Mr or Miss Right.
