Fuera de Carta

(Chef's Special)

Synopsis

Maxi thinks his life is perfect. Then, unexpectedly, the children from his sham marriage turn up on his doorstep and a handsome ex-football player from Argentina moves in next door, making him re-evaluate his own morals and values.

My Verdict

Faboloso! Muy bueno! Fantastico! (I could go on, but I've run out of words which I think are "excellent" in Spanish -- but I doubt if they are indeen Spanish in the first place.)

I have nothing much to say, really. You guys just HAVE to watch it. The script is witty (which is on top on my film watching priorities), the acting is extremely good, the cinematography is flawless, and the film wants to make you go to a fancy restaurant after watching it. To be perfectly honest, I don't have the words to describe how good it is -- just take my word for it.

The last screening will be on 11th October, 7pm. But I believes there's a big chance that it will get voted for Audience' Choice, which will be screened on 12th October, 9pm.

El Orfanato

(The Orphanage)

Synopsis

Laura returns to the orphanage where she spent the best years of her childhood to discover that it has acquired a haunted, unhappy air. She then sets out to learn what happened at the orphanage after she left, plunging headlong into a netherworld where the dead reach out to the living.

My Verdict

I'm not a big fan of horror films, so I was a reluctant watcher to begin with. However, I must say that this is one of the good ones. The costumes were creepy and the acting is alright. Some scenes will draw a whimper out of you, but not give you a heart attack like most ones do. Unfortunately, there are slow points that will make you wonder if they were worth prolonging in the first place.

Mataharis

Synopsis

Private detectives Inés, Eva, and Carmen often invade others' privacy but are clueless about confronting their own secrets. While on the job, these three surveillance specialists will have to cross the thin line dividing public and private matters, bringing their own issues to light in order to solve more than just their professional cases. (IMDb)

My Verdict

It's well-made, but rather dull to be quite frank about it. You tend to expect action sequences, thrills and lots and lots of suspense in a detective film -- but you don't get it here. There is bucketloads of drama, though, if you're into that.

I think this should have been a made-for-tv movie and not one to be shown in the cinema.

Lo Mejor de Mi

Synopsis

Lo Mejor de Mi (The Best of Me) is about Racquel, who, when she was a little girl, could not understand why everyone talked constantly about love on the radio, on TV, in Saturday afternoon films and specially in songs. She always wondered what would happen if she did not find anyone who would love her. When Racquel moves in with Tomas, she will have to ask herself what she would be willing to do for love. She will discover how beautiful, and at the same how difficult, it is to truly love someone. (Lo Mejor de Mi official synopsis)

My Verdict

The above synopsis is bullshit. The only things true about it are the last two sentences. Everything else was not shown in the film. Pfttt.

However, I can say that the film itself was beautifully made. The lead actors were quite good in expressing their characters' emotions in a subtle and realistic manner. The shots were enchanting and well thought out.

Trouble is, because the plot is pin-hole tiny, there wasn't much room to work with. What happened then was that some bits were a drag and slowed the film down. BUT, the twist at the end had made the dragging moments worth enduring.

My condition vs the celebrity condition

Bikini season's definitely over and I managed to avoid wearing it as much as possible. I hadn't been feeling too great about my body recently (especially after I saw my photos during our Ilocos holiday earlier this year) and I managed to put a teeny-weeny bit of weight off.

I lost a little bit on my tummy and maybe 2mm on my arms, but no changes whatsoever on my hips, bum, thighs and legs. In fact, if I didn't know any better, they might even have gotten bigger!

Aging is depressing, I'm tellin' yah. My metabolism is the speed of a slug eversince I turned 27.

HOWEVER, I've found a little picker-upper for my battered self-esteem -- I just make my way through to The Celebrity Condition website:

Wohohoho! Apparently in TCC (The Celebrity Condition, if you've forgotten), Mischa Barton is the Queen of Cellulite.

If she has this much of it, then she had just cheered me up for the day! Thanks luv!

These are supposedly Kate Moss' legs. If this is true, then it's the end of the world!

Jeez, saggy much? Even Uma's not immune to gravity.

I feel much better now. Heh.
