It's embarrassing, but I admit that Made in Chelsea got me hooked after just one episode.
They're wealthy, fashionable, obnoxious, stupid, have no idea how to act, but they are very entertaining in so many wrong ways!
Here's the scene that sealed the deal for me --
Binky: Fish give birth through their mouths, don't they? Cheska & Ollie: No, no, darling. Cheska: They have bumholes.
Ollie: Their bumholes? Your bumhole is not where it comes out! You're a
woman, you should know that babies don't come out of your ass. Cheska: No, but they come out a hole.
Although the cause of her death last Saturday is still unconfirmed, I doubt that anybody was surprised by the news. She had been on self-destruct mode for goodness knows how long. People weren't shocked... they were saddened.
She's a very talented woman and like many other people who've got immense musical talent, she didn't have the strength to wrestle her demons. Instead, she tried to escape them. I'm certain it wasn't her intention, but by the time Amy Winehouse' body gave up, she unknowingly signed up for the infamous 27 Club -- the group of musicians who died at the very young age of 27. The member list includes Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Kurt Cobain and many other high-profile names in music.
What a shame she had to die so young. Was your life really so bad, Amy? I hope your tears really do dry on their own where you are now.
I think what ultimately convinced this stingy girl to blow off her savings and haul her big ass all the way down to Australia was going to see U2 at their 360° Tour show at Sydney.
Frustrated Sosyalera doing her tourist-y thing in front of the ANZ Olympic Stadium. Loadsssssss of people!
Got seated at about 7pm and Jay-Z was performing as the band's front act. He performed all his great collaborations (with taped Alicia Keys & Linkin Park -- boo.).
We did a fair bit of waiting after Jay-Z finished and the place slowly filled up. We were wayyyyyy up the bleachers -- much farther than my seat at the Gin Blossoms concert back in Manila -- but I had a feeling it didn't matter because the spaceship stage had a huge screen on it.
Another token tourist photo while waiting (good thing I didn't do them hand signs -- I almost did).
That spaceship of a stage was absolutely amazinggggg.
It was a complete light and sound show that just confounds the sensesssss.
There's also this bridge that goes around connected to that ring around the main stage.
Money well spent here! It was one of the best nights of my entire XX years! I'd never seen anything like it and I doubt any other act can pull off anything close to it (especially now that Michael Jackson's gone). Tell me if I'm wrong!
Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry are definitely showing their age, buuuuuut their performances are still top quality.
(Geez, I'm such a gushing fangirl right now that it's becoming a little embarrassing.)
It's funny how the doors down/up to the seats were open the whole time -- it made the stadium look a lot more like a space colony.
People standing by the doorways look eerie.
To really get how awesome this show had been, here are some amateur videos (not mine though, as my camera conked out early) --
Beautiful Day -- Opening.
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For -- Bono made the audience sing practically half the song, but it's still awesommmmmme! He also mentions the celebrities in the audience (e.g. Oprah, Nicole Kidman, Kanye West).
City of Blinding Lights -- The screen at the top expands down, making it look like a cage with mighty fine lights.
With or Without You -- Finale. Shet, kinikilig pa rin ako. Hahaha!
Bad -- If I'm lucky enough to go see them again, I'm DEFINITELY getting Red Zone tickets (plus 10-inch platforms because I'm so short)!!!
I told myself years ago that if there's one act I'd really want to go see live, it'll be U2. I thought it was something I could live without doing, though. Now that I've actually done it, I felt like I've really indulged myself. Being selfish never felt so good.
I'm still a U2 junkie at the moment, but I'm allowing myself to open up to different types of music recently -- it helps to keep my feet on the ground.
If there's is such a thing as emo folk rock, then I'd say Mumford & Sons will fit the bill perfectly. I'm not a big fan of folk, country or bluegrass, but these guys sure got me hooked.
I've gone to watch a bluegrass band play one time (I was with "very mature" friends)and right then & there I swear I'd fall out of my chair out of boredom. I've decided it's not for me.
Certainly, Mumford & Sons is very much different from that band (they're a lot younger, that's for sure), but more than the music, it's the how they've written the lyrics to their songs that got me listening. They're pure poetry and I painfully wish I could churn out lines like they do. Very inspiring stuff, I tell yah. Their words just have such a powerful effect on me and for some reason they hit me on a really deep level (otherwise, I wouldn't be blabbering about them like this).
I would really love to see these guys live. Wonder how, though? *think think*
I was watching the Got 2 Dance Auditions on TV this morning and the story of Matthew Koon's audition caught my attention. He's from an Asian/Oriental family in Manchester and his story is a lot like many Asian kids who want to be artists -- most Asian parents would like their children to pursue careers in sciences or anything that's known to bring financial stability. Art, music, etc are never good options, because they fear that there's no money in it.
Matthew's story was very inspiring. Let's not be afraid to pursue our dreams, people!
On a lighter note, I'm seriously crushing on Adam Garcia (2nd from right) at the mo'!
Ok, so MAYBE most people don't care about my resurrection from blogsphere semi-death. I never would have thought I would go so long without posting anything here.
What's with the absence? It's a loooooong story that I would preferably keep private. Basically, I ended up making drastic changes to my personal and social lifestyle. It looked rather dreary in the beginning, but lately, things have started to pan out and fall into place.
Shitty things happen when you least expect them to, but it's the way you bounce back that makes the person you are.
The last few weeks had been a time of reflection, realisations and rediscovery -- for which The Kooks played the music in the background. I love these guys. I'm thinking of stalking them. Harhar!
The last couple of weeks went by in a whirlwind of... nothing? I had been so busy with work, that I had trouble posting here.
If there's one thing I learned from what I had been doing, it's that I'm a very boring writer! Hehe! Give me time pressure and a lot of material and you get a boring piece. Maybe I'm just being too self-critical, but that's how artists are, right?
An artist? Me? Perish the thought!
Actually the root of the problem is time management and forward planning. Once I get the kinks out of my distracting schedule, I'm sure I'll get the hang of all this work.
On other news!
Bono had taken off his sunglasses, wtf.
You NEVER see the U2 front-man without his shades.
This time though, he takes his shirt off as well. Yikes.
I didn't do anything over the weekend apart from watching a whole lotta DVDs. It's nice sometimes, more so when the weather is chucking it in.
All Sunday afternoon was spent watching Stylista -- forget Top Model, this is the sheet! Basically, the show is about aspiring for a junior editor position at Elle Magazine (okay, I think that was quite a dead summary but I didn't wanna bother too much
The reason why it's so good to watch is because of two people... and it doesn't include the host, Anne Slowey (Elle Magazine fashion news director)--
You'd sort of feel sorry for Kate in the beginning of the series because she was being bullied for the way she dresses (in-your-face-boobs). However, as the series progresses, she shows her true, annoying self.
And Megan, is the teen-movie-mean-popular-girl personified! She is so evil that The BF managed to sit through the whole series because he was waiting to see what kind of bad things she was gonna say or do. That's really something, I'm tellin yah. Wouldn't wanna meet her personally, though.
Eversince I got the new Lily Allen album "It's Not Me, It's You," I've tried looking for the music video of the song "22." Sadly, it wasn't released until recently.
I like it because the first few lines hit me quite hard (just don't ask why)--
When she was 22 the future looked bright But she's nearly 30 now and she's out every night I see that look in her face she's got that look in her eye She's thinking how did I get here and wondering why
I've seen this clip where US President Barack Obama is being inteviewed by Jay Leno on The Tonight Show and I have to admit, I am pretty impressed. I was never into the US elections, because if something is overhyped, I get turned off -- and I thought that election was definitely overhyped.
After having watched this interview, however, I thought "Jeez, this guy has charm oozing out of every pore in his body." So yes, loads of charisma -- but that doesn't mean I think he will be a good president. He's quite a smooth one, that's for sure.
He's taken a bit of flak from critics about his "special olympics" joke during the show, but that just proves how hard it is to be a president -- you can't even crack a joke anymore. Tsk.
I've just seen this video of Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie yesterday and I was just so bowled over by how beautifully made it was. I'm so bowled over that it's borderline jealousy. Hehe!
Time lapse is amazing, don't you think?
Want to sing along? Here are the lyrics!
(See, I'm a very good poster as I give you everything you want. hahaha)
