Beauty Find: 4u2 Glitz Eyeshadow

The trouble with going into Watson's is passing through the kiosks of makeup on the way to the drugs counter. There was always something cool or funny to find in drugstore aisles such as the controversial
virginity soap.

My last trip had resulted in an excellent find -- 4u2 Glitz Eyeshadow.

4u2 Glitz Eyeshadow Duo (black and metallic gray), P234

4u2 is apparently a US brand, but the makeup is manufactured in Thailand. The Glitz line of eyeshadows are sold in sets of two, with colors that are great for lively nights out.

I bought this set because of my obsession for smoky eyes and wanted to practice it with this set. Why? Because it is pretty and cheap! I think I'm gettin' the hang of doing them smoky eyes with this baby! Woot! Will show you the pictures once I've done them in broad daylight so you really get to see the colours.

Til then, my sowshall friends!

Merry Christmas, sowshalls!

.

.

Here's a little sumthin-sumthin from me, Frustrated Sosyalera. Merry Christmas, everyone!!! I especially made Gusgus pose for the Christmas poster special, so he has no idea he had been pimped out in the internetz... as if he would care, right? Hehe!

It has been a pretty quiet one this year, we hardly ate and my family was ultra-bored. BUT, it's all about being together, so there we were.

If you hid yourself out from the world today, then you missed the multitudes of people that are out in the malls today of all days. They were absolutely packed!

Thank goodness I don't have any more shopping to do. I don't know how much more my wallet can take it.

Avatar on my mind

It has been three days now since I've seen Avatar at the cinema, and I still can't stop thinking about how cool it is.

The same phrase keeps repeating in my head over and over:

AVATAR IS COOL.

There was no other way to describe it. The visuals was absolutely stunning. You actually feel like you are in another world and sometimes you forget if you are watching CGI or actual people onscreen. It's just amazing!

The plot is is another story. It's predictable. Have you seen the animated movie Ferngully? Well, it's like that except that it is in another planet.

You only get to see it in Manila today and tomorrow, so catch it before the MMF movies come out on Christmas Day!

This avatar version of lead Sam Worthington looks eerily like Brendan Fraser as Encino Man, though.

Compare.

Brittany Murphy dies at 32

As if the number of dead celebrities aren't enough for this year, I have just found out that Brittany Murphy has passed away.

She wasn't that big of a star, I know. She didn't have that many movies and she wasn't a particularly brilliant actress. But having just had my birthday last week, it makes me nervous that she died at 32 years old. To my mind, she is much too young.

Brittany Murphy apparently died of natural causes, after collapsing in her bathroom just several hours ago. It is not clear what those "natural causes" are, but I just hope she's not another druggie.

The girl I know as Shellie of Sin City...

...and Molly of Uptown Girls is now gone.

I hope she finds peace wherever she is.

Birthday Recap

My life is going by so fast, that my blog couldn't keep up anymore. When I say that, it seems so exciting...It's not, really.

I was on leave for my birthday. I had intended to get checked up by my dentist and do some Christmas shopping to beat the rush. I also wanted to look for some new clothes.

Guess what? I had done none of that.

In fact, I did abso-flippin-lutely NOTHING.

I had spent all that time doing a bit of writing, chatting with my mum and just watched the movies that were rotting in my hard drive for months. So I guess I did something, but they weren't very productive.

I was happy! I had been too busy recently that I didn't have the luxury of time to just bum around. It felt nice after being to stressed for so long. If I went on holiday somewhere, I doubt that I would feel this relaxed.

NOTHING was the best birthday gift I had been able to give myself this year. Imagine that!

That Jackie Chan vs. Jet Li fight sequence in Forbidden Kingdom is AWESOME!

I think I'm gonna kung-fu me some more popcorn.

Chateau 1771, Greenbelt 5

The BF and I decided to have dinner somewhere a little more fancy than usual for our 5th anniversary sometime ago. Since this is our first time doing this, we decided to go for
Chateau 1771 at Greenbelt 5. We were very happy with our choice!

We arrived a couple of minutes late for our booking, but it didn't matter because we were seated promptly. I think we were well into our appetiser when The BF received a call from the restaurant representative to confirm our booking.

How odd! We have never ever in our lives got followed up like that by a restaurant. We were quite impressed because we felt like a couple of big timers! Hehe!

The service was excellent because the waiting staff was courteous and always kept our glasses full -- there was no need to have to call them just to ask for more water and they always filled up our wine glasses when the contents are getting low.

The BF got a text from them a couple of days later, asking how our experience was and if we had any comments. Isn't that thoughtful of them? Now that is service!

Beef Bracciole, P430

We had Beef Bracciole for starters. The meat was very, very tender (note that I used "very" twice). You wouldn't believe how beef, lemons and cheese will go well together!

Linguine Salpicao, P510

This dish is quite simple, but it was the quality of it that made it stand out. Again, the beef was so tender that it almost seems cottony (if there is such a word). The white sauce won't make you feel too guilty about eating it, as it only has the right amount.

Lemon Chicken, P390

This dish is apparently one of their bestsellers. It is flavourful and has just the right amount of lemon. Sometimes lemon chicken tastes bitter if it's got too much lemon, so this one is a winner.

House wine bottle, P1,000

As there was something to celebrate, we decided to get a whole bottle of wine. We really have no clue what the difference is between the kinds found in the restaurant wine list, so we were quite happy to get the house wine (it is also the cheapest! we are still stingy deep inside.hehe).

We had Creme Brulee (P180) for dessert, but I was already too tipsy and forgot to take a photo! It was quite yummy, though. I recommend!

In summary, we really enjoyed our dinner, even though it was quite expensive. However, even with the price we appreciated the quality of the food, which means paying for the huge bill was worth it.

If you ever decide to try this restaurant, get ready to pay between P600 to P1,000 for a normal meal. If you would like some wine on top of your meal, then wine bottles start at P1,000.

Marked the occasion with a photo!

FS Picks of the Week, Dec 15-20

Everyone's busy at the moment, right? I hadn't done ANY gift-shopping yet (well apart from the one for the office Christmas 'do). I can't seem to get myself to do it unless my birthday passes... which is TODAY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I suppose I'll just admit that there's nothing much happening this week apart from the opening of Avatar. That's just as well, as everyone's busy doing other stuff to prepare for Christmas.

Avatar
Starring: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver
Synopsis: Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. London in 3,000 photos

Next to Manila, my second most favourite city is London. That's because I hadn't been to many cities abroad. Nevertheless, I think it is a very beautiful one.

I got this video from a friend on Facebook and it's something that I love watching over and over.

3,000 photos of London with Daft Punk's Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.

(Note: The artist had since updated this video and changed the song to something else. Still a good video, but I much prefer the Daft Punk version.)

Breakfast at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

Since somebody told me that breakfast at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was amazing, I had always wondered about it. Unfortunately, I'm a very lazy person in the mornings and you would have a hard time making me move my ass before lunch.

But I've managed to try it at some point.

So breakfast at CBTL it is, then!

I ordered the Eggs Benedict breakfast (I had been lusting for eggs benedict for the longest time!) and The BF got the Brek o' Day, which were both priced at Php 229 (includes brewed coffee).

Eggs Benedict, P229

The eggs looked yummy with hollandaise sauce. Not only does it look yummy, but it also tastes yummy! Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like a hearty breakfast.

And I wonder if I can manage to make a proper eggs ben on my own at home.

Brek O' Day, P229

The BF's breakfast meal looks even sadder than mine. Those sauges look too pale and the eggs are much too flimsy. Needless to say, he was quite disappointed.

The food was fine and the coffee was good, but it's hardly worth all that money. We were so dissatisfied, that we wanted to go eat more food somewhere else after that. I would much rather go to McDonald's for breakfast!

A little dose of sweetness

I just want to share something really cute.

Whenever I use my netbook to blog, write or edit photos, I always sit with both my legs stretched out the length of the sofa.

Gusgus sees this as a chance to make papansin... short of begging for a tummy rub.

Who can resist those puppy-dog eyes???

So I pet him for a bit, then go back to working on the netbook.

And what does he do?

He sits on my lap, getting in the way of the netbook and then looks at me, expecting more scratching. Which I do for a bit, then get back to work. BUT, everytime I start tapping on the keyboard, he will wedge his head between my hands and the laptop!

So nothing gets done, basically.

Gusgus is a sweet little thing, but just he's really quite the attention whore.

FS Picks of the Week, Dec 9-13

I'm on a late streak.

Last Saturday, I had been late to a wedding... and I'm one of the bridesmaids! I know, it's shameful. I arrived in the middle of the ceremony, wtf.

Then I was late for my sister's birthday lunch the next day, because I had a hangover. She called to wake me up... because it was already noon!

Then I had been consistently late with my work deadlines.

Now my Picks of the Week post is also late! It's now wednesday, gawddamnit! It's embarassing! I should just name it FS Picks of the Latter Part of the Week, because I missed a couple of days already! Sheesh. I'm very disappointed with myself.

The vice that Erap can't live without

I was talking to my parents last night, who have both decided they are going to vote for Gilbert Teodoro as president. I underestimated them, because I was certain they were going to choose Noynoy. I guess I was wrong.

I hadn't made up my mind about which candidate I like for myself, but it's sure as hell not Erap! This guy, he had been impeached, found guilty of plunder, and he STILL had the gall to claim that he should be voted for President again!

Can the common Filipino people actually be as stupid as to re-elect this idiot?

Here is a video clip from the Presidential Forum held at UST the other day. See how Erap reacts to a student's character question:

"What vice or luxury can you not live without?"

Forward to 1:14 to see. I am appalled that this man had become president of this country. Sheesh.

I especially love the reaction shot of Gibo on 2:24, though. Hehehe!

His face said it all. It's like he was thinking "Man, this guy is unbelievably stupid!"

New Moonies

I've written before about how
Stephenie Meyer sucks at being a writer.

I had seen Twilight the movie and thought that was sickening. It was all I could do not to gag on my own bed while seeing all the bad acting that was going on. I had to watch it on two tries, as I couldn't take the cheese.

I vowed not to watch New Moon at the cinema, as I can imagine myself groaning loudly to myself at the cheesy bits. So I decided to wait for the DVD instead, and watch it at the privacy of my own bedroom.

So the books suck, the movies suck and the writer sucks. Why is it, then, that women everywhere are going gaga over them? The male population of the world look down on the other sex with utter disgust.

They just don't get it.

The girls don't see Bella in the story, they see themselves. Every girl lusted over an exciting, popular and handsome bad boy at least once in their lives, thinking they could change them into a sensitive guy. A guy that would suddenly always be there to save them, hang on to their every word and won't care about anything or anybody else. I'm sure Gabriela or the women's lib aren't too happy with this set back regarding the damsel-in-distress thing. Tsk.

What Twilight does is remind the girls of those feelings. The vampire/werewolf thing was just a side note. The story is all about feelings.

Twilight is basically girl-porn. Hehe!

FS Picks of the Week, Nov 30 - Dec 6

Unlike most of the city, I hadn't gone to watch
New Moon. I figured I would think it would be so cheesy that I'd groan much too loudly in the cinema at certain scenes. So I opted to wait for the DVD instead (especially as The BF didn't want anything to do with the movie. hehe!).

Aside from Amelia, other movies out this week are Planet 51, Two Lovers, Biyaheng Lupa and Dukot (Desaparacidos).

The Earth, Wind & Fire concert at the PICC will be something the oldies might enjoy, so go tell your moms and dads.

Starring: Hilary Swank, Richard Gere,Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston
Synopsis: An extraordinary life of adventure, celebrity and continuing mystery comes to light in AMELIA, a vast, thrilling account of legendary aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart.

Sundress for the gloom

For a gloomy day like today, instead of wearing something dark, I would opt to wear something really bright and colourful.

Obviously, I had been spending too much time on Lookbook. Their members really inspire me to be a bit more creative. Although, wearing a one-piece dress (that I don't exactly own, mind you -- my cousin left it lying around in my flat), isn't exactly creative.

HOWEVER, it is certainly not something I would normally wear.

What would you have worn on an overcast but still warm day?

Berry Sweet!

If you had been following my tweets, then you may have known that I had been lusting for a new mobile phone. Even after I've posted some of my phone choices several months ago, I promised myself that I will only buy a new one when my old Motorola V3i conks out.

It doesn't seem to want to conk out, though!

It's a great phone, but with my use of Twitter and Wi-fi getting more and more available everywhere, I was getting frustrated with it. I certainly couldn't use it to quickly check my email or write a quick tweet.

I was torn between getting a Nokia E71 and a HTC Viva, but then I suddenly found out through the internets that the Blackberry is being slowly introduced in the country.

Obviously, the Blackberry won.

It's such a lovely piece of mobile qwerty candy. I got myself the Curve 8520, with it's amazing trackpad.

I can now regularly check my blog, Facebook, update Twitter and even search on Yahoo. This internet addict is very happy indeed!

I haven't signed up my mobile to the Blackberry network yet, though. I'm still trying to figure out how far I can go without emailing all the time. The lowest subscription package on Globe is for Php700 for 5MB every month.

I've got this unit on the cheap -- I don't think I will ever spend an insane amount on a silly mobile phone.

However, I've learned you can get the Curve 8520 prepaid pack from Globe at only P14,995! That's ridiculously cheap, compared to the lowest amount I got quoted for a Nokia E71, which is P16,000++.

Won't need a light

I was too early for a meeting one evening, so I had a stroll, ordered dinner that would take some time and leafed through a magazine. As the magazine wasn’t very entertaining, I ended up people-watching

That’s when I thought to myself “Why didn’t I ever get into smoking?” If I smoked, then I would look so cool and waiting would have been a sophisticated undertaking.

I imagine that I’d look like a modern-day Marilyn Monroe.

But then I remembered that smoking screws up your lungs, shortens your life, darkens your lips and yellows your teeth and fingernails.

However, there’s now a thing called an electronic cigarette. They have the look and feel of an ordinary cigarette, but much healthier. It doesn’t have any of those cancer causing things that you find in normal cigarettes like tar, carbon monoxide, smoke and 400 other bad stuff. It doesn’t even use tobacco! With electronic cigarettes, you just basically inhale water vapor and nicotine.

Electronic cigarettes don’t produce smoke, but they produce a vapor mist that looks exactly like smoke. Which means I don't need to go outside a restaurant or a bar to smoke! It might even be cheaper because they use rechargeable batteries and you can even get them in starter packs.

It would sound so shallow, but I think the best thing about electronic cigarettes is that they are also customizable -- your cigarettes can then match your shoes. ;)

Jennifer Lopez Falls on Louboutins

Have you seen Jennifer Lopez' performance of Louboutins at the American Music Awards? Yeah, she fell on her big ass. Thank goodness for all that cushioning -- she danced like nothing happened!

Wonder if she was wearing a pair of Louboutins that night, just to make her point?

J. Lo claims that she intended to fall down.

Errr... yeah, right.

Granted, she did fall in time for a big beat.

Reminds me of somebody else who fell off the stage and acted like nothing happened.

*Ehem* Beyonce, that's you.

I can't bring myself to watch New Moon -- I don't care if it's a major blockbuster. I would rather just wait for the DVD and watch it on installment, in case it becomes too cheesy for my liking. I had to watch the first movie in two parts because I couldn't take it. Tsk.

Aside from A Christmas Carol, other movies opening this week are Wanted:Border and Ninja Assassin. Have all the good movies suddenly gone into limbo somewhere?

Disney's A Christmas Carol
Starring: Jim Carrey
Synopsis: On Christmas Eve, a stingy old businessman is visited by the ghost of his old partner, warning him that he is to be visited by three ghosts that very night. The ghosts of Christmases past, present and future all arrive to show the old man the error of his ways.

Hassle-free TV

Sometimes I get so busy that I don't even have time to watch television anymore. As you get older, you tend to develop a liking for watching the news -- which I miss a lot now because I'm so caught up with work. The only way I watch television series now is through Youtube or dvd's. It's a little frustrating.

I've come across Direct TV Offers before, and it makes me really wish that their service is available in this third world country. I wish I could watch the local soap operas like Lovers In Paris in my own time and not have to rush home every time to watch it. Getting one of the Direct TV Deals liberates you from fussing with your VCR or dvd recorder and will even let you record up to 14 days in advance.

For now, I'll just daydream about getting this in Philippines. Americans are so lucky!

I love MMDA

... well not exactly.

A lot of people would say they're sick to their stomachs with the MMDA colours, but not me!

The Metro Manila Development Authority's unusual choice of colour combination may not look so nice out on the streets.

Translation: No crossing. Deadly

But it's definitely eye-catching.

Which brings me to the real subject of this post --

My new pair of sandals. Hehe!

I just adore it's pink-and-blueness. It's wrinkled because I wore it as soon as I had paid for it. Hehe!

I don't care if people call me an MMDA fan.

Demi Moore has been mutilated!

Remember
this post?

Photoshopping models isn't exactly a new thing. We have been scandalised over and over that we've become numb to the situation. I know that when I buy a magazine, I know that I'm buying an illusion (which I gladly succumb to).

And since they are promoting a dream, sloppiness is inexcusable!

Demi Moore is on the cover of W Magazine in December, and the artists and editors have managed to defile the actress in a horrible manner...

... Demi currently has a large chunk of her hips missing, which does not align with her lovely, normal-looking thigh.

Oi fashion magazine people! We already know that you Photoshop everything and since you're doing it anyway, you should at least make your work realistic!
