I don't mean to be mean...

In fact, I actually feel guilty. But I do wonder...

Do you think she bought just one airplane seat, or two?

Hmmm???

Okay, okay. So spank me, I've been a very bad girl.

Fasyonizin'

I didn't do anything over the weekend apart from watching a whole lotta DVDs. It's nice sometimes, more so when the weather is chucking it in.

All Sunday afternoon was spent watching Stylista -- forget Top Model, this is the sheet! Basically, the show is about aspiring for a junior editor position at Elle Magazine (okay, I think that was quite a dead summary but I didn't wanna bother too much

The reason why it's so good to watch is because of two people... and it doesn't include the host, Anne Slowey (Elle Magazine fashion news director)--

You'd sort of feel sorry for Kate in the beginning of the series because she was being bullied for the way she dresses (in-your-face-boobs). However, as the series progresses, she shows her true, annoying self.

And Megan, is the teen-movie-mean-popular-girl personified! She is so evil that The BF managed to sit through the whole series because he was waiting to see what kind of bad things she was gonna say or do. That's really something, I'm tellin yah. Wouldn't wanna meet her personally, though.

Seriously guys, go watch it!

Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009

Because I'm a lemming, I didn't want to be left behind and just had to post about my nominations for the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009.

And because I'm also lazy, I'm writing this in a hurry -- the deadline's tomorrow!

Without prolonging the agony, I think the following blogs deserve the honor:

  1. Adaphobic
  2. Flair Candy
  3. GoodTimesManila.com
  4. ILoveHateAmerica.com
  5. Let'sGoSago.net
  6. Lizzbuenaventura.com
  7. MagneticRose
  8. PatayGutom.com
  9. Smoke.ph
  10. Style and Relax

I'm kinda wondering if I should've nominated myself... but I didn't want to come across as too narcissistic. Hehe!

This writing project was possible with the help of Absolute Traders, My Brute Cheats, Business Summaries, Fitness Advantage Club, Events and Corporate Video, Events at Work, Dominguez Marketing Communications, Red Mobile, Budget Hotel in Makati and Blog4Reviews.com.

See my bun(s)

I had been wearing my hair in a bun a lot lately.

The way I do it is simple:

Pull all your hair up as if to make a ponytail near the top of your head, twist all around the base to make it look like a cinnamon roll (or like a piece of crap, whatever you prefer to compare it to) then secure the whole thing around with an elastic.

It's clean and unkempt at the same time -- I just love the contradiction!

Some guys dig the librarian look, but that's just a little too kinky for me. I'm just happy to get the hair outta my face! Hehe!

Camera lust

I absolutely love my little Sony T70, but sometimes I want to take photographs with a bit more "oomph," if you know what I mean. The point and shoot is convenient, but it doesn't have the ability to take photos with selective focusing unlike proper digital SLR cameras, when I feel like being artistic.

A friend has a Canon EOS and I think it's absolutely fantastic, but it's also amazingly heavy. I couldn't be bothered to carry a big thing like that around (looks cool, though). So I've been lusting for the new Olympus E-P1.

*sigh*

I'm not sure if it's available in the Philippines yet, though. I may have to look it up on the Shopwiki Cameras & Photography section and see if i can find anything there.

Muffled noises

Ever had one of those days when you know there's so much to say but you're so busy and then when you do get the chance to tell, you draw a blank? For me, that day is today.

Well, tonight.

Whatever.

*sigh*

Since I don't have anything in mind to tell (being that it's half past midnight may have a hand on it), I'll just post a random photo of me with tofu Japanese curry and no make-up ------

Soooooo. I don't have to dress up to drop the dog off to get groomed, right?

Umm, wait... the dog gets groomed while I walk around in all my dowdy glory?

It's the story of my life!

    Mobile phone envy

Several years ago, we all wanted the hottest mobile phones available -- having the latest model made you instantly popular and cool. So you change models whenever you could and it didn't matter if the one you're using is still working fine.

Well, I've gotten older, wiser and more practical now. I've been using the same Motorola V3i for three years running and have promised myself to replace it only when it conks out.

It's quite sturdy though, as I don't know how many times I've dropped it and it's still working! Sometimes I wish it dies suddenly so I'll have an excuse to buy a new one. And WHY would I want a new one? I'm just fed up of it, that's all.

Being practical about purchases such as mobile phones, doesn't really spare me the gadget envy. Especially if there are so many cool models out at the moment.

Did you know that you can get awesome gadget reviews on YouTube? Just take a look at this one for the Nokia E75 (it's my dream phone of the moment). The other two videos are reviews for the LG KS 360 and the Nokia E71 -- yes, I'm lusting at phones with QWERTY pads. Tsk.

    I'm a Mag Hag

I have this love/hate relationship with glossy magazines.

They "expire" so quickly, quite possibly as soon as you open them (which is most probably mid-month) and then a new issue comes along after a week or so when you've finished reading the one you just bought.

They then pile up on your bedside table or in that little compartment underneath your lounge coffee table before you realise it. They pile up until they get so high that you now have to throw them a way. By this there should be at least 20 magazines in those stacks which, when you think about it, would be at least Php 2,000 going to the rubbish bin because you won't need them anymore.

Thousands of pesos just gone down the drain.

But I still buy them. I can't help myself, especially if I see covers like this
    and think to myself ---

"What the heck, is that Maricel Soriano???"

So I buy the magazine because I'm shocked that she looked fantastic in the cover and much better than me despite the decade-and-a-half age difference and I wanted to read about how amazing she looks in her 40's and what sort of clothes she wears and makeup she uses and whatever stuff that's not exactly relevant to my life. And maybe (and that's the microscopic-sized kind of "maybe") I may have wanted to look like (or at least give the same aura, possibly) as she does when I reach that stage.

    *sigh*

Pathetic, right? Well, I just thought that I'd been a good girl lately, so this was a mini-reward to myself.

And so the stacking begins once more.

FS Picks of the Week, Jul 20-26

Every Monday, Frustrated Sosyalera will try to bring you the best of the week to come -- called FS Picks of the Week.

If I get the movie schedules wrong, I'm sorry. Sometimes the showing times aren't final 'til Wednesday, so pfttt. =P

ALL OF A SUDDEN, there're TONS of films coming out!!! This week, there's The Proposal, Public Enemies, Adventureland and My Sister's Keeper. Plus, Boyz II Men are here!

    Public Enemies

    Starring
    Johnny Depp
    Christian Bale
    Marion Cotillard
    Jason Clarke

    Synopsis
Johnny Depp and Christian Bale emerge from two of the biggest blockbuster series of all time (Pirates of the Caribbean and Batman, respectively) to star in this crime drama from HEAT's Michael Mann. Depp stars as legendary gangster John Dillinger, while Bale plays FBI agent Melvin Purvis.

    The Proposal

    Starring
    Sandra Bullock
    Ryan Reynolds
    Malin Akerman
    Craig T. Nelson

    Synopsis
When high-powered book editor Margaret (SANDRA BULLOCK) faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she’s actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant Andrew (RYAN REYNOLDS), who she’s tormented for years. He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family (MARY STEENBURGEN, CRAIG T. NELSON, BETTY WHITE) and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another. With an impromptu wedding in the works and an immigration official on their tails, Margaret and Andrew reluctantly vow to stick to the plan despite the precarious consequences. --© Disney Touchstone

    Adventureland

    Starring
    Jesse Eisenberg
    Kristen Stewart
    Martin Starr
    Kristen Wiig

    Synopsis
Adventureland follows recent college grad James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) as he slogs his way through summer as a games attendant at a local amusement park, where he learns about the shady goings-on of the carny’s world and is introduced to an assortment of weirdos, stoners, goons, and other lost souls. Among that last group is the angsty Em (Kristen Stewart), who captures James’s heart despite her involvement with the park bad-boy, a rocker-turned-maintenance-man (Ryan Reynolds) who seduces women with a dubious story about jamming with Lou Reed. Though the movie has its share of vomit scenes and erection jokes, Mottola is surprisingly restrained in his use of gross-out humor (particularly given SUPERBAD’s near Shakespearean vulgarity), with much of the film’s more blatant hilarity coming courtesy of Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig as the park’s completely unhinged yet utterly in love managers.

    My Sister's Keeper

    Starring
    Cameron Diaz
    Abigail Breslin
    Alec Baldwin
    Sofia Vassilieva

    Synopsis
Sara and Brian are living an idyllic life with their young son and daughter, Jesse and Kate, when they receive heartbreaking news that leads them to make an unorthodox choice in order to save Kate’s life. Their decision eventually raises both ethical and moral questions, ultimately setting off a court case that reveals surprising truths and challenges everyone’s perceptions of love and loyalty, giving new meaning to the definition of healing. --© Warner Bros

    Lady Gaga is bankrupt???

It's something Mr BF told me earlier that shocked me... shocked me in the sense that he knew about Lady Gaga's bankruptcy and I was none the wiser!

Of course, I looked it up and found the news on NME.com, so it's apparently true. If she puts that much effort and too much of her own money into her shows that's she'd gone bankrupt FOUR times now, it makes me really curious to go see her when she comes over to Manila in August. Hehe!

    Which begs the question:

How can you go bankrupt at the height of your popularity and success???

Maybe she oughta lay low on the sparkly undies and bathing suits for a while.. even if she has totally amazing gams.

    Crocs are stupid

    Ha, I KNEW IT!!!
It didn't matter what anyone said to me about how those
Crocs sandals were so comfortable etc etc, I would never ever ever be convinced to get a pair -- because they were so damn ugly to me and I wouldn't want to waste thousands of Pesos to to buy those monstrosities. I feel so vindicated that the overpriced pieces of foam called Crocs are going bust.

According to Maddox of The Best Page in the Universe --

    I could never agree more.

    Blingin' it

I love gold. If I was not terrified of being mugged again, I would wear gold earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings all the time. Heck, I would definitely buy gold bangles, because I had been lusting for a set for the longest time. But I mostly wear costume jewelry now, just to be safe because I commute a lot.

Wealthier people might prefer to have gold coins or buy gold bullion -- did you know that you trade precious metals now, like you do with stocks or currencies?

I’m not interested to buy gold coins, though. If you are, you can get gold coins through Goldcoinsgain.com.

    Runway to pavement

    Eversince our local version of
Marie Claire had stopped publication, I suddenly didn't know where to go when I want to know the new trends. So like any sensible girl, I went and paid my respects to Vogue.

I saw this beautiful tiered dress by Christopher Kane (of course, I didn't know the designer before today) ---

    Lovely, right?

Incidentally, I've just seen this photo yesterday ---

Emma Watson's style is so classic and sophisticated, and I really admire her for having it at such a young age. It's also wonderful to see that runway clothes can be worn on normal days too, because I wouldn't know where to start with that. Hehe!

*This post is because Harry Potter 6 opens today. Nyahahaha! JK! Not really, it's just a coincidence. ;-)

    Wannabe stylista

I have no sense of style. I dress alright, but that's it. It's just "alright." I have, once again, lost sight of what this blog is supposed to do... which is to help me learn how to have style.

I don't commit too many fashion faux pas, but that's because I always play it safe when dressing up. I wear next to nothing makeup. I wear my flipflops to death. I'm soooooo Plain Jane.

Like the last time I went clubbing, I wore these rags (nevermind my horrifying smile) --

    It just screams WALLFLOWER.

It's not bad, but it's too... ummm... ordinary.

Why am I hell-bent on doing this when I'm not doing so bad anyway? I just realised that it's not enough to be "OK." I'm only young once and if I can't wear the clothes, makeup and accessories I want now, then I certainly won't get away with it in 10 years. My neck might look like a turtle's by then.

So it's a tribute to my (cough) youth. To make as much out of it as I could.

Good luck to me on my Journey to the Essence of Style.

    Winging it

I have no plans. Nothing for tonight, tomorrow, this weekend, next month, a little something in October, but for the most part, I don't have a clue what I'll be doing. I know I gotta be mindful of my cashflow, but I'm getting used to that. I've been a sleepless worrywart lately and it's not exactly fun. Somebody told me I should lighten up a bit (not easy) and to take things one day at a time.

    Hmmmmm... very Hakuna Matata.

I've decided to take that advice. I am tired of worrying about money, my work and my life in general... so f---k it.

I think right now, what I need is a little tub of ice cream.

    Anyway!

One other interesting I forgot to mention that's going to happen this week is Cinemalaya 2009. You can read all about the film festival finalists here. The awards will be given out on 26 July.

There's nothing else worth mentioning except for the opening of the 6th Harry Potter installment -- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. So far, the RottenTomatoes rating for this baby is 96% fresh (who cares if there were only 27 reviews???).

And yes, Mr Boyfriend, you're gonna go watch it with me whether you like it or not. Mwahahahaha!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

    Starring
    Daniel Radcliffe
    Rupert Grint
    Emma Watson
    Tom Felton

    Synopsis
Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting bon vivant Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn't counted on Romilda Vane's chocolates! And then there's Hermione, simpering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again. --© Warner Bros

    Lily Allen's 22

Eversince I got the new Lily Allen album "It's Not Me, It's You," I've tried looking for the music video of the song "22." Sadly, it wasn't released until recently.

I like it because the first few lines hit me quite hard (just don't ask why)--

When she was 22 the future looked bright
But she's nearly 30 now and she's out every night
I see that look in her face she's got that look in her eye
She's thinking how did I get here and wondering why

    Revisiting vanity

Back in the day (say, 5 years ago) I used to be such a big camwhore. I don't know what happened in recent years, maybe I thought I've become really manang and didn't really care if I looked frumpy or amazingly plain.

The cousin coming over sort of emphasised my lack of make-up skills -- because she seemed like an expert and I didn't really want to be mistaken for her personal assistant.

I think I've gone overboard on the camwhoring, though.

    Exhale

FINALLY some time to myself! Whew! The last couple of weeks had been a logistical mini-nightmare, I swear. While the cousin was here visiting, the bf also had his own share of tourguide/chauffeur duties to complicate matters. He needed me because his guests were ladies and I needed him to take my guest around. Tonight's the first time we will be able to properly digest what happened this past week.

Not sure if the cousin had a blast, but damn she was getting ATTENTION. To think she was only here a few days!

She went on a night-out with models, hobnobbing with the elite(?) and now added a magazine photo-shoot to her list of accomplishments -- she's only 20 years old.

The cousin was such a head-turner, that she got stopped while were walking in a mall by these magazine people who wanted to profile what she was wearing that day. Take note, this magazine is different from the one that gave her a photo-shoot.

Now why didn't they profile me too, huh?? I must've looked like her nanny! I guess I'm meant to stay frustrated for a little while longer. Hehe!

    Peared up

I was very skinny when I was little, but by the time I was in puberty, my hips, thighs and calves had suddenly filled with fat. I had managed to keep myself fairly fit all through my teenage and early twenties, but it proved much more difficult after I had hit 26. It was all downhill from there.

Being bottom-heavy meant that I have a pear-shaped body. It would have been nice if my chest got filled out too, then I would’ve been deliciously curvaceous (one can dream!). I have always wondered what it would be like to buy C-cup bra. I thought C was big enough, anything bigger than that might just give me back problems or may just make me look freaky. Either that, or guys may not take me too seriously.

I had watched tv programs about breast agumentation , so I know a thing or two about it. Of course, those shows can’t beat real experts like the ones you can find through MYA (Make Yourself Amazing). They even have a toll-free number where you can get a free consultation for the curious.

I do not think I am ready to go under the knife for breast enlargement, though.

Okay, okay. I'm a little late. So damn busy, y'know. Buuuuuut, as things go this week I would rather go blow my money in Giordano than watch Hannah Montana, to be honest.

    Hannah Montana The Movie

    Starring
    Miley Cyrus
    Billy Ray Cyrus
    Jason Earles
    Emily Osment

    Synopsis
With a crazy double life in California as an everyday teen with the secret pop-star persona Hannah Montana, Miley Stewart (Cyrus) has forgotten who she really is. To get her back on track, Miley’s dad, Robby Ray Stewart (Miley’s real-life father, Billy Ray Cyrus), decides that she needs some time back on the family farm in Tennessee to celebrate Grandma Ruby’s (Margo Martindale) birthday. At first, Miley is belligerent, but with the help of Travis (Lucas Till), a former childhood crush who now works for Grandma Ruby as a farmhand, she begins to realize what is really important to her.

    Disjointed

Got home at around 4am this morning -- work hard, party hard.

So anyway, I think a period of changes will happen within the next few weeks. I will write about it when they happen. For now, they're all just plans.

I also just realised that I really do love to go out clubbing and that I see myself still going until goodness knows what age I can still do it -- either I'd be too old or I'm too sick from all the binge drinking.

All the club DJ's are injecting their Michael Jackson mini-tributes this week -- looks like no matter what he's apparently done to kids and whatever, he still gets respect in death.

I'm a mess today, don't mind me blabbering.

    Tourguide FAIL

My US-born cousin had come to visit for the first time (technically second, but as she was 8 years old back then, so it doesn’t count) this week and I wanted to pull out all the stops.

I look like her yaya. Tsk.

She had a manic couple of days in the province, so I thought I’d better take her to dinner at a nice restaurant in one of the more attractive parts of town – Serendra.

I made her eat Binukadkad na Plapla (deep fried and busted opened fish, literally)

and Gising-Gising (a dish made of beans and chili cooked in coconut milk).

She’s half Filipino, so asking her to try some Filipino dishes out should be a good way to acknowledge her heritage, right?

Well, she had been sick (as in vomiting) all day yesterday. I, of course, am guilt-ridden. She’s about to waste two days of her precious vacation because of possible food poisoning.

It’s not like I made her eat street food like balut (fermented duck egg), isaw (gizzard), betamax (dried blood), adidas (chicken feet) or helmet (chicken head). I took her to a posh restaurant!

Anyway, I’ve learnt my lesson. Even if experiencing the food while travelling is important, I now know that some tummies are more sensitive to sudden food changes more than others. *sigh*

No, Rick Astley is not dead.

Jeez. That is just sick, you know? CNN's iReport announced that Rick Astley was found dead in a Berlin hotel room the other day, I nearly believed it because that was CNN gawddamnit.

I feel sorry for the guy. He might have shopping for groceries yesterday when someone would've come up to him and said "Hey, I thought you were dead!"

It's just stupid. I know it's fun to Rickroll and stuff, but this was NOT funny at all.

I'm never gonna give you up... because I'm immortal.
