Nobody knows how you get breast cancer, only that you have a higher risk of getting it if it's in your family history.
Kylie Minogue has been very lucky to survive it, which is why she posed for the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign and stripped off all her clothes. She only had a sheet with the campaign logo to cover her up --
I say, she's still looking pretty hot at 41. I had squinted at this photo for a while to see if she had a mastectomy, but I can't tell. If my mother caught me, she would've thought I was a lesbo.
The campaign was also endorsed by Claudia Schiffer and Sienna Miller.
It is a sad day for women all over the world who lusted over Ricky Martin while listening to Livin' la Vida Loca or She Bangs.
After 10 years (f*ck, it's been that long???), the guy (ehem, the gay) finally admits he is homosexual. He was apparently inspired by the birth of his twin sons. Read about it here.
It wasn't entirely shocking, but I just thought it was a secret he was going to take to the grave. hahaha! There had been speculations about him even during the peak of his career. Us girls just didn't want to accept it.
Girls never win! If a guy is extremely good-looking, he is either a player or gay!
Now, how in the world did he get twin sons if he's gay? Maybe he got himself a baby mama, I have no clue.
I guess if Ricky Martin was truly an alpha male, I don't think he would've been caught doing these poses back in 2005 ---
Apparently, the other guy is his brother. Which makes the photos even more cringe-worthy.

I'm surprised that quite a few movies are opening this Holy Week including Clash of the Titans, Possession, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Bounty Hunter and Babe I Love You. But I guess Black Saturday doesn't count as dead mall days in the Philippines anymore (especially as all the beach resorts are full to the rafters in holidaymakers).
I have this sneaky feeling The BF will try and make me watch Babe I Love You, for fear of being out of place in the office again like when that last JohnLloyd/Bea movie came out. *cringe*
Sam Worthington gets to kick ancient Greek ass in Clash of the Titans. Just WOW. Maybe he wasn't too happy about not having to kick alien ass using his own legs in Avatar.
Will you be going off anywhere this week? I'll mostly be working. *yawn*
Clash of the Titans
Starring: Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton
Synopsis: In Clash of the Titans, the ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.
When I tell people that I work from home, everyone exclaims how lucky I am. It definitely has it's advantages --
- Can wake up or shower whenever I feel like it
- No need to fuss with matching clothes or putting on makeup
- Can cook lunch or snacks
- Can watch television during breaks
Unfortunately, it can also be boring and much more stressful because you are trying to get more work done to get paid. And with the summer heat, I think I'll be getting heat-stroked just by staying at home.
However, I think the best thing about working from home is that I can squeeze tiny breaks within the workday that I would otherwise not have been able to do at the office.
Such as curling one's hair, which I did last week.
Whatta hair, Tina Paner!
I think I did an ok job, but somehow I made myself look like an 80's porn star! My friend kept telling me all night that I looked like I just had an "o."
*cringe*
I guess that meant I need more practice. (-_-")
Every once in a while, I start to wonder how I'm progressing with this frustrated sosyalera thing. Most of the time, I'm going nowhere. That might be because I really could not afford the time to spend on improving my non-existent style. But being too busy is exactly the kind of thing that will make you manang! I am far too scared to become a frumpy old lady – I want to become a mature woman of style by the time I turn 40. There is no more time to be complacent, because youth and glowing skin fades before you know it.
Unfortunately, the trouble with starting from scratch when it comes to learning about style is the information overload. There are too many sources for fashion style and lifestyle tips available that bland ladies like me just don’t know where to start. How does one apply all that information?
What can one do, except to press on? I guess I’ll just have to continue reading sites, practice dressing and putting on makeup in the hope of eventually becoming culturally clad at some point in the future.
I had been very fortunate enough to have been invited to a blogger event at the Velocity Sports Bar located at the newly-opened Marriott Hotel in Manila. I had never been to a promotional event like this before, so I was very reluctant to go on my own. In the end, I decided to drag Sharma all the way to Newport City to attend the gig.
The BF and I have been looking out for when the Marriott was opening, because we had visited the Resorts World Casino a few times (in fact my camera had been hostaged at the reception again later in the evening). We had no idea the hotel had been operating since November (or maybe we were just too darn busy over the holidays to notice).
Sharma and I arrived at the bar, not knowing what to expect at all.
But any place that hands over a welcoming glass of wine is fine by me!
Martinis and Cosmos -- these are a couple of Frustrated Sosyalera's best friends!
This being a party, we were also lucky to have been able to sample the food.
More sushi and sashimi over at that table which we can help ourselves on.
Rey, Liz and Jay-R
Thanks Rey & Liz for extending the invite to me (I know I have taken advantage a little bit.hehe!)
There were loads of games and some could also use the Wii to entertain themselves.
If you think Velocity is just another sports bar, then guess again. They have this ENORMOUS 92-inch television! You wouldn't even miss the blackheads on Wayne Rooney's gawd-awful nose with a screen that big. That's the largest of the bunch, but there are 4 smaller (but still huge) LCD tv's in the bar.
More photos.
If you go 'round to WhenInManila.com's post about the gig, there's a cool video of the hotel there. Check it out here.
I had really had a great time rubbing elbows with the new people I've met that evening. It's a shame I didn't get a chance to try the other dishes on the menu, but I'll make sure to have another go before the month is over.
It's a slow movie week, but I've been looking forward to seeing How to Train Your Dragon at the cinema. Now whether I'll be watching it in 3D is the million-peso question. Unfortunately, all the reviews are raving about the flying sequences on 3D. My pennies are shaking in my purse, as 3D movies are damn expensive to watch. Hrrr.
How to Train Your Dragon
Starring: (Voice of)Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera
Synopsis: Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers. Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges he and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view. --© Dreamworks
A lot of people are looking forward to this mega-concert by Timbaland this weekend, which also features Justin Timberlake (only an extra???) and Jojo (where had she been hiding lately???).

I blame Tiger Woods.
If it wasn't for his wandering dick and his practically endless string of whorish mistresses, I don't think Hollywood will be in such a buzz this week about Jesse James' (Sandra Bullock's husband) own extra-marital affairs.
The announcement for Sandra's triumph as Best Actress for The Blind Side at the Oscars has just started to warm up and this crappy news just had to ruin it for her. It hadn't even been two weeks!
The jerk cheated on Sandra with this pee-oh-ess (POS -- guess what it means) --
It's a walking graffiti lady!!!
I think the Tiger Woods scandal opened some kind of Pandora's Box and whores all over who have had affairs with celebrities or their partners are beginning to realize that they can earn extra by going public. This is so sad.

Whatever Kate Moss wears, it becomes the latest fad. I still remember how the Ugg Boots became the ultimate footwear several years ago when she strolled down the streets wearing them.
I'm not sure if this is the same photo, but what the heck.
Many women attest that these boots are so comfortable and warm that it's great to use during winter. It's like wearing your bedroom slippers outside.
Unfortunately, recent studies have shown that Uggs are actually bad for your feet -- especially if your feet are flat. They apparently provide next to nothing support for your feet and it doesn't matter if you buy the knock-offs or the originals. If you use knock-offs, however, the effects can be worse. Read the article here.
I've never owned a pair of Uggs, simply because I think they Ugg-ly as hell. I don't care how comfy they claim it is.
There is no doubt that summer is here. It's so freeking hot that the record for the hottest day in the country was broken twice in the last few weeks! The pinoy in me is so strong when summer hits, that I can't stop thinking about getting myself a big bowl of halo-halo.
So off to Metrowalk we go, to get my halo-halo fix at Icebergs.
Metrowalk is like no man's land on a Saturday afternoon.
Club Sandwich, P198
For lunch, we ordered a Club Sandwich. It looks nice, but it's kind of bland. I feel like it should have more stuff in it. Instead, it's just eggs, bacon and a bit of lettuce. It's too expensive for what it is. The one from Pancake House is a lot better.
Fish & Chips, P178
The Fish & Chips were excellent! The fish was soft and sort of melts in your mouth. If only there were a few more chips in there, though.
And now for the main event! Dessert!
Saba Langka, P88
I'm not very fond of langka (is called jackfruit in English?), but the saba and langka on shaved ice was still nice, topped with mango ice cream.
Halo-Halo, P88
Oh my glorious halo-halo! It has ube, beans, gelatin, leche flan (caramel custard), fruits, et cetera. It's just a shame the shaved ice melted too quickly because of the heat.
All this talk of halo-halo makes me wanna go back there today. Pfttt.
I've changed my blog layout into this amazing design by graphic artist extraordinaire, Paolo.
If you guys need any designing done, just hit him up. I'm very pleased with my blog's new face!
Lately, I've been thinking about doing away with the darned Frustrated Sosyalera Picks of the Week stuff. So I've ceased posting it for a couple of weeks. But then I find myself struggling to when asked what movies are out for the week, that I'm forced to bring it back.
The major difference now is that I'm doing it for myself, but that you are welcome to share the information. Hehe!
Anyway, somebody told me that The Book of Eli must be a good one to see this week. Unfortunately, it has a rotten rating at RottenTomatoes.com. That has not stopped me before, though. Alice in Wonderland was rated rotten, but I loved it!
Book of Eli

Empty cities, broken highways, seared earth--all around him, the marks of catastrophic destruction. There is no civilization here, no law. The roads belong to gangs that would murder a man for his shoes, an ounce of water...or for nothing at all.
But they're no match for this traveler.
A warrior not by choice but necessity, Eli (Denzel Washington) seeks only peace but, if challenged, will cut his attackers down before they realize their fatal mistake. It's not his life he guards so fiercely but his hope for the future; a hope he has carried and protected for 30 years and is determined to realize. Driven by this commitment and guided by his belief in something greater than himself, Eli does what he must to survive--and continue.
Only one other man in this ruined world understands the power Eli holds, and is determined to make it his own: Carnegie (Gary Oldman), the self-appointed despot of a makeshift town of thieves and gunmen. Meanwhile, Carnegie's adopted daughter Solara (Mila Kunis) is fascinated by Eli for another reason: the glimpse he offers of what may exist beyond her stepfather's domain.
But neither will find it easy to deter him. Nothing--and no one--can stand in his way. Eli must keep moving to fulfill his destiny and bring help to a ravaged humanity. --© Warner Bros [More]
The movie adaptation of the novel The Lovely Bones will also be showing this week --
The Lovely Bones
Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon,Saoirse Ronan
Synopsis: Oscar winner Peter Jackson directs this adaptation of Alice Sebold's beloved novel THE LOVELY BONES. After she is killed, young Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan, ATONEMENT) looks down from heaven on both her parents (played by Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz) and her murderer.
Oh and booklovers who love Neil Gaiman's works should not miss his visit this week!

Guess who these were from?
They were not from my boyfriend (I wish!) ...
... Nor were they from a "secret admirer"...
They were from my boss!
Before you go thinking that my boss wanted to have an affair with me, I should tell you that the flowers were a parting gift.
I've packed up and left the company I have worked with for the last 4 years or so. I've been through a hell of a lot all those years and part of me is quite happy to go. However, I'm not completely gone as I will still work with them on a subcontractor basis.
If you had been following me via twitter, then you would know by now that I've been working from home since Monday. I thought that if I worked at home, I would have more time to do the things I enjoy.
So far, I'm more stressed now than I was when I was permanently employed. I guess I'm regretting it a little bit.
But I'll give myself a couple of more weeks to adjust. Maybe this thing just takes some getting used to.
Since the comment is still on my tagboard and I just get annoyed each time I see it on my blog, I thought I might as well answer the question.
So this post is to answer the comment posted by somebody called "Cherry Gil." I would've answered the question personally, but Mr/Miss/Mrs Gil forgot to leave a web or email add. For the benefit of everyone, he/she/it was asking if my blog was copying Sosyalera.net.
The alias he/she/it had chosen is full of implication. There is a Filipino actress called Cherie Gil (note the spelling difference), who uttered these famous lines in a movie --
You are nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!
I'll be nice and just think he/she/it deliberately spelled the alias like that, instead of thinking that it was misspelled.
I don't believe I should explain myself, really, but I'm bored today. So I thought I'd answer this question, just in case somebody else comes along in the future. Subsequent questions will be directed to this post.
I have made the mistake of creating Frustrated Sosyalera before googling it to check for results. Obviously, there is one glaring semi-duplication when I did it. But by then, I've already put in too much work on this blog to rename it. So I've decided to stick with the name. The way I see it, there's enough room in the internet for the both of us.
Besides, apart from topic similarities (I mean who doesn't write about fashion, beauty and pop culture nowadays?) our sites could not be any more different. Our styles are miles apart. I will never be a fashion guru like she is and I'm more concerned about making myself look good, before I can even think about giving others advice.
I think Sosyalera is good at what she does. But apart from what I've seen in the beginning when I was still concerned if I was looking like a copycat, I hadn't been visiting anymore. I have my own words to publish and I have no time to concern myself with keeping tabs on my own site, let alone hers.
So Cherry Gil, I hope that's enough of an answer for you.
... but not when I'm all made up, have nowhere to go and alone with my camera.
The last few months, I have barely charged up my camera and hardly bring it with me. Hence, the lack of posts. But I think I've woken up from my semi-coma, which had resulted into --
I've managed to bring the "whore" into this self-timer-photoshoot session. Anlandeeee!!!
Sheesh.
Honestly, I don't really know whether I should be ashamed of my vanity. Should I embrace it?
But I'm shy!!!!
In my last post, I mentioned about how Avril Lavigne had changed her image from punk-skaterkid rockstar to fashionista rocker. The get-up was nice, but honestly, there wasn't much impact -- she just looked like a normal, sophisticated lady.
However, I would prefer that to how Courtney Love dresses --
It's just so wrong. Is it halloween this early in the year?! She looks like a hippy ghost!
Man, if I was a washed up rockstar (was she ever a rockstar to begin with?), I don't think dressing like that would get the attention you need. But I'm not a druggie nor a rockstar, so maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Exactly two years ago, Avril Lavigne looked like this --
If you had managed to watch the closing celebrations of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics just a couple of days ago, then you might be surprised that Avril had made an image change.
Very sophisticated, huh? I mean, damn, look at those killer stilettos! Move over, sk8trgirl. Hello hot mama. Hehe!
I can't wait to see Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which is opening in theatres this week.
It will be interesting how the king of goth will interpret this Lewis Carroll classic story. I've been a big fan of Tim Burton's work since Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands.
There are so many other reasons to see this movie:
1. Johnny Depp,
2. Johnny Depp, and oh yeah --
3. Johnny Depp.
Okay, I'm just kidding. He doesn't look even an ounce sexy under all that makeup and mad hat... looks like he's got the crazies. I suppose that's why the role is called the Mad Hatter (redundant. I know).
If I can manage to get pale enough, I'll go as Anne Hathaway's White Queen for this year's halloween.
If I can't get pale enough, I'll just try to channel the Red Queen portrayed by Helena Bonham-Carter and use a lot of clown makeup.
If you had seen episodes of the British comedy series, Little Britain, then Matt Lucas will look familiar to you. He plays Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum.
Off with his head!!!
